Features

Manual section nesting

Possibility to make manual nesting easily and quickly when needed.

Advanced algorithms

Our dedicated algorithms run powerful engines that determine among thousands of possibilities the best way to position pieces on a selected bar or plate to optimize the use of steel. For example, we can nest two haunches on top of each other by taking into consideration the associated angles. Additional parameters can be set to maximize that even more (see further).

Multi-project available

For greater flexibility and depending on the way that you organize your production, you can mix parts from different projects on one single nesting. As long as they have the same features (thickness for plate, or profile types for beams), they can fit in the same nesting. Filters of those features can be applied to help select the pieces from different projects.

Consideration of machine technologies

Steel Projects stores all your machines available and their capacities so that those are considered while the nesting algorithms run. This is what makes our section nesting module dierent from the others on the market : it is made for actual production and is much more advanced and accurate than a simple nesting made for procurement in which lengths of parts are the only parameters. If a machine can trim cuts, they will be allowed during the nesting calculation.

Sequence management and programming automation

Not only the nesting engine optimizes the use of steel, but it also manages the way the machine will actually perform. For example, starting points can be configured to save time and optimize the use of consumables. An emulator is available to visualize production before it begins and adjust machine sequences if necessary. Last but not least, Steel Projects creates programs associated to nesting to optimize automation.

Different settings available (for section nesting)

Different parameters can be set before the nesting is done. For example, what are the priorities to take into account for the result? Limit the amount of scrap or remnant? Prioritize the use of beams available in stocks or the ones to be ordered? Limit the number of programs in order to limit tool changes? The software can also store all the products available at your suppliers’ depending on their types and dimensions. Then, you have the possibility to unselect or select some of them while setting the nesting parameter to give you even more flexibility.

Management of remnants and scraps

You can set up the parameters that will determine if a remnant must go back to stocks or be thrown away. ID numbers are automatically created for the remnants that are kept and then used for next jobs.

3D visualization of nesting (for section nesting)

After the nesting is created, you can visualize the future result in 3D, zoom in and zoom out. Moreover, you can see selected parts in yellow, remnants in green and scraps in red or orange.

Traceability management

Steel Projects stores all the tooling operations made by the machines on each part (when and by which operator). Labels can also be printed directly at the station to attach them on parts after being cut.

Stock link (internal or external)

By integrating stock information, you can decide which bar will be used for a particular nesting or decide to order one instead. This data is updated instantly, whether it comes from an external stock management software or ours. Purchase lists can be created easily when orders need to be placed.

Follow-up of the status of the nesting

You can easily see the status of each nesting (nested, sent to production, processed) with color codes. You can also apply filters to find them quickly according to their status.

Edition of customizable reports

You can edit reports that include any information that you may want to include. Those can be given to the operators
on the machine. They may include bar codes for the operator to launch the program with a scanning system that facilitates the input.
